  Programme Information
About the Programme : Our department that was established in 1970, and received the name of Food Science and Technology in 1987 and then Food Engineering in 1994 is the one of the country’s well-established departments. There are 14 faculty members in our department including 7 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, and 3 Assistant Professor who are experts in their respective fields and the most of them studied abroad. 30 % English language training program is being implemented at the undergraduate level following 1 year English language preparation in our department. Our students are sent abroad to study through student exchange programs such as Erasmus. Food Engineering department educate students and conducts research in following areas; processing raw materials with suitable techniques and hygienic conditions, optimizing production, ensuring quality and safety in food production, shelf life extension, waste disposal, food additives, determination of nutritional value, quality and safety of foods with objective and sensory analysis methods. In our department mainly courses are given in food science, technology and engineering areas and students are also have chance to experience a wide array of laboratory practices beside theoretical courses. For this purpose, 10 analysis laboratories and 4 research and application laboratories are in service in the department. The pilot plants established for purpose of the production produce milk products, wine, pickled olives, olive oil, jams, sauces, meat products and bakery products.  

Qualification Awarded : The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor’s degree of Food Science and Technology and Related Fields. 

Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor’s Degree) 

Specific Admission Requirements : Placement through a centralized national university placement examination (ÖSYS). Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) is responsible to place students according to their ÖSYS scores.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning : In Turkish Higher Education Institutions, the acknowledgment of the Bachelor´s diploma for a university is organized with the regulations related to double majors and subspeciality and the transition between Associate Degree programs and undergraduate program. This regulation also allows credit transfer between related institutions.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations : To be successful in this program, students are required to successfully complete all the courses to meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum of GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Profile of the Programme : The main purpose of the educational program of the Department of Food Engineering is to educate students to have knowledge and skills required to produce wholesome, safe, nutritious and consumable foods. Other purposes include conducting research projects and organizing courses, seminars and conferences for food industry, consumer organizations and other organizations.

Access to Further Studies : The graduates of this program are eligible to apply for admission to graduate studies in same field or related areas if they pass the evaluation process designated according to the regulations of “Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee”, which includes ALES, general point of average, and the interview.

Assessment and Grading : In this program, assessment and grading are conducted according to Cukurova University Education and Assessment regulations for Associate and Undergraduate degrees.

Graduation Requirements : To be able to finish undergraduate degree, students must complete all courses, applications and workshops that are included in the program, gain two hundred and forty (240) ECTS credit requirements in total in undergraduate level and obtain a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00.
