  Programme Information
About the Programme : The department was established in 1978. It has four different major subfields, namely Botany, Zoology, Molecular Biology and General Biology. The department has Molecular Biology, Bacterial, Genetics, Plant Physiology, Animal Physiology, Plant Ecology, Animal Ecology, Hydrobiology and Microbiology research laboratories as well as student education labs. Bank and Eastern Mediterranean Plant Herbarium (ADA) are also available. There are 14 professors, 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, 7 research assistants, 1 technician, 1 secretary and 1 employee, a total of 28 full time staff. In the department of Biology 666 students (348 getting regular education and 318 getting evening education) are imparted and informed in theoretical and practical skills and educated to work independently, learn, communicate and gain social competencies specific to the field of science. In addition to regular education, students are encouraged to participate and create social and other educational activities (congresses, symposiums, conferences, panels). Students are required to undergo training on issues and in places related to science of biology for 30 days. Students in the last year are presented postgraduate professional information on fields of study during certain time periods during the spring semester courses and also they carry out research projects in their interest of areas under the responsibility professors or assistant professors. Under the Bologna process, the department targets the framework of national and international qualifications and renew the courses in accordance with the requirements of the age. Students are encouraged to participate Erasmus and Farabi Programs. In addition, data base is created in order to communicate and get information by telephone and e-mail for graduates and undergraduates.  

Qualification Awarded : The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor’s degree of Biology. 

Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor’s Degree) 

Specific Admission Requirements : Placement through a centralized national university placement examination (ÖSYS). Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) is responsible to place students according to their ÖSYS scores.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning : In Turkish Higher Education Institutions, the acknowledgment of the Bachelor´s diploma for a university is organized with the regulations related to double majors and subspeciality and the transition between Associate Degree programs and undergraduate program. This regulation also allows credit transfer between related institutions.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations : To be successful in this program, students are required to successfully complete all the courses to meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum of GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Profile of the Programme : To prepare the students to serve as a link between the decision maker/executive and the persons implementing those decisions. To train the students as an ‘executive extender’ to required be efficient and up-to-date in office skills as a member of the office team. To make the students appliers of scientific developments to the industry To develop the skills of the students to meet the needs of a changing business world.

Occupational Profile of Graduates : Graduates will have a master degree and work in all kinds of institutions and organizations providing health services, medical analysis, Medical research and support units, Environmental protection and control, Ecological planning and related fields, Organizations and institutions engaged in biotechnology work,all kinds of production activities, Hydrobiological and fisheries-related research and production activities, Foundation of National Parks and Wildlife Management areas, Biology education-teaching activities and development of Biology programs, EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) in the preparation of reports, The areas of Agriculture and Forestry as a basic scientist, Food Control Laboratories, Water treatment plants, Determination of standards for biological products, biomedical, Drug and pharmaceutical raw materials, production and quality control of cosmetic products, Vector control studies of living things, universities, Schools affiliated to the Ministry of Education, Private schools and classrooms, Industry R and D laboratories, Quality-control units in the industry  

Access to Further Studies : The graduates of this program are eligible to apply for admission to graduate studies in same field or related areas if they pass the evaluation process designated according to the regulations of “Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee”, which includes ALES, general point of average, and the interview.

Assessment and Grading : In this program, assessment and grading are conducted according to Cukurova University Education and Assessment regulations for Associate and Undergraduate degrees.

Graduation Requirements : To be able to finish undergraduate degree, students must complete all courses, applications and workshops that are included in the program, gain two hundred and forty (240) ECTS credit requirements in total in undergraduate level and obtain a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00.
