  Programme Information
About the Programme : The Department of Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology studies the civilizations of the ancient Near East in a long time span starting from the Neolithic Period which marks the beginning of the first agricultural activities and the appearance of first settlements, followed by the Chalcolithic Period and Bronze Ages until the end of the Iron Age. All of the civilizations in the Near Eastern including Mesopotamia, Iran, Syria, Palestine and Caucasia are studied in a chronological order with a special emphasis on Anatolian cultures. 

Qualification Awarded : The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor’s degree of Arkeoloji. 

Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor’s Degree) 

Specific Admission Requirements : Placement through a centralized national university placement examination (ÖSYS). Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) is responsible to place students according to their ÖSYS scores.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning : In Turkish Higher Education Institutions, the acknowledgment of the Bachelor´s diploma for a university is organized with the regulations related to double majors and subspeciality and the transition between Associate Degree programs and undergraduate program. This regulation also allows credit transfer between related institutions.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations : To be successful in this program, students are required to successfully complete all the courses to meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum of GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Profile of the Programme : The students enrolled in the programme of Archaeology at Cukurova University, Faculty of Science will take courses mainly on Protohistory, Near Eastern Archaeology and Classical Archaeology and other minor programmes for 4 years (8 semesters) and complete their studies writing a thesis. The purpose of the programme is to provide students with an in-depth, solid background in the archaeology, art and history of ancient ages and aid further specialization on related specific topics. Even though the main focus of the studies is Anatolia, the culture of the neighbouring regions including Mediterranean, Egypt, Iran, as well as the Near East is examined. The historical boundaries, on the other hand, start from prehistoric times and extend to the end of the Roman Period. The Department of Archaeology offers a unique programme, in which the students will be guided to develop their reserach and analysis skills through a combination of required reading on the background of archaeological theory, written and oral assignments , as well as lectures and seminars. The programme contributes not only to the students’ knowledge in archaeological theory but also to their skills to collect and digest information, develop critical thinking and express their genuine ideas in spoken or written ways. With its distinct programme, The Department of Archaeology aids its students to master the basics of theory and research methods in a disciplined manner and to gain occupational mastery and competence for future life.

Occupational Profile of Graduates : Graduates, having been qualified as "archaeologists", may work as academics at universities, as well as archaeologists in the state or private museums, in the local municipalities or in the Ministry of Culture.  

Access to Further Studies : The graduates of this program are eligible to apply for admission to graduate studies in same field or related areas if they pass the evaluation process designated according to the regulations of “Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee”, which includes ALES, general point of average, and the interview.

Assessment and Grading : In this program, assessment and grading are conducted according to Cukurova University Education and Assessment regulations for Associate and Undergraduate degrees.

Graduation Requirements : To be able to finish undergraduate degree, students must complete all courses, applications and workshops that are included in the program, gain two hundred and forty (240) ECTS credit requirements in total in undergraduate level and obtain a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Mode of Study : This programme is a Full Time programme.
