  Programme Information
About the Programme : Biomedical Engineering,is an engineering branch that produces solutions to the issues in health area using engineering approaches; especially in medical diagnosis, therapy , general cure and treatment fields as well as aiming for improvements. The work scope of biomedical engineering widely ranges from design and production of electronic and mechanical devices-systems and software used for diagnosis and therapy , to operation and maintenance of those units in addition to research for solving clinical problems. Computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonographic imaging systems and various other laser devices are examples in the area of activity of Biomedical Engineering. The department started education in 2012. First Cycle program is composed of both theoretical and applied courses and arranged as suitable for above concept.Moreover, there is a 1-year compulsory english preparatory school and two industrial summer practices in the program. 

Qualification Awarded : The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor’s degree (BSc.) in Biomedical Engineering. 

Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor’s Degree) 

Specific Admission Requirements : Placement through a centralized national university placement examination (ÖSYS). Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) is responsible to place students according to their ÖSYS scores.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning : In Turkish Higher Education Institutions, the acknowledgment of the Bachelor´s diploma for a university is organized with the regulations related to double majors and subspeciality and the transition between Associate Degree programs and undergraduate program. This regulation also allows credit transfer between related institutions.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations : To be successful in this program, students are required to successfully complete all the courses to meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum of GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Profile of the Programme : Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary engineering branch composed of medicine, electronics, computer and mechanical engineering. In first half of the program, basic engineering courses and medical courses are given to students. In the second half, specialized core courses in the field are given to students so that they could combine engineering and medical fields to obtain a perspective to analyze and solve the problems. In addition, summer practices enhances the theoretical knowledge and transfer into practical skills hence the graduates become qualified engineers.

Occupational Profile of Graduates : Students of Biomedical Engineering are educated on the basis having theoretical and applied knowledge of the field and practical skills gained from experience with analytical thinking and research capabilites, as well as ethic values. The graduates have gained design skills for electronic, mechanical and software units required for biomedical devices and/or systems. Some of the graduates are employed in engineering companies dealing with manufacturing of biomedical devices. Moreover, graduates also gain skill and knowledge for operation and maintenance of medical systems in clinics as well as other issues of clinical engineering. Graduates are also employed in clinics and biomedical companies that serve for maintenance and technical service. 

Access to Further Studies : The graduates of this program are eligible to apply for admission to graduate studies in same field or related areas if they pass the evaluation process designated according to the regulations of “Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee”, which includes ALES, general point of average, and the interview.

Assessment and Grading : In this program, assessment and grading are conducted according to Cukurova University Education and Assessment regulations for Associate and Undergraduate degrees.

Graduation Requirements : To be able to finish undergraduate degree, students must complete all courses, applications and workshops that are included in the program, gain two hundred and forty (240) ECTS credit requirements in total in undergraduate level and obtain a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Mode of Study : This programme is a Full Time programme.
