  Programme Information
About the Programme : Practical education in Fruit Growing and Breeding (Citrus and other subtropical fruits; temperate zone fruits), Vegetable Growing and Breeding, Viticulture, Ornamental Growing, Post-harvest Storage and Physiology, Biotechnology and Organic Farming is provided in order to raise Agricultural Engineers those meet the needs of the public and private sector. In 4 years of Horticulture education, in first and second years students mainly get lectures from other departments those are related to agronomic sciences and in the following 3. and 4. years students get theorical and practical lectures related to horticulture. In addition, elective courses are provided in order to allow students to have the knowledge of their individual interests. 

Qualification Awarded : The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor’s degree of Horticulture. 

Level of Qualification : First Cycle (Bachelor’s Degree) 

Specific Admission Requirements : Placement through a centralized national university placement examination (ÖSYS). Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) is responsible to place students according to their ÖSYS scores.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning : In Turkish Higher Education Institutions, the acknowledgment of the Bachelor´s diploma for a university is organized with the regulations related to double majors and subspeciality and the transition between Associate Degree programs and undergraduate program. This regulation also allows credit transfer between related institutions.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations : To be successful in this program, students are required to successfully complete all the courses to meet a minimum of 240 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum of GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Profile of the Programme : Department of Horticulture had begun activities as one of the three division related to Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ankara in1970. The department has offered bachelor’s degree in 1973 and master science in 1983 connected with the University of Çukurova. It has collection, production and research areas both at Taurus Mountains and at Çukurova region suitable for the cultivation of many species and varieties of fruit trees, vegetable crops, ornamentals and viticulture. Besides modern laboratories, greenhouses, cold storages, agricultural equipments and machines are added to these opportunities. The students have education based on practical training under good physical and ecological conditions that not only the Turkish but also the departments in the world have not got. Scientific studies are conducted on propagation, production, breeding, storage and biotechnology of horticultural crops by the strong academic staffs who are specialists on their subjects at the department. Beside the practical studies aimed to solve the problems of the farmers, important scientific researches are carried out in collaboration with national and international research institutes and the results are published in scientific journals. Also students are exchanged between different horticulture departments in the world by the ERASMUS programme.

Occupational Profile of Graduates : In graduate education students select one of the areas mentioned above or subjects like organic farming, protected cultivation or biotechnology. They are educated and specialized on their fields. Graduates from the sub-programme Horticulture Department are able to find jobs as a researcher or a broadcaster in Ministry of Agriculture or in different associations of the government. They also can work in Ziraat Bank or in other banks, in agriculture credit cooperatives, municipalities, private seed companies, nurseries, fruit and vegetable storage departments, packing houses, sauce, conserve and juice factories, private farms and greenhouse companies. They can give advisory services or open their own private fertilizer and pesticide firms or manage production units or make academic carier in universities. 

Access to Further Studies : The graduates of this program are eligible to apply for admission to graduate studies in same field or related areas if they pass the evaluation process designated according to the regulations of “Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee”, which includes ALES, general point of average, and the interview.

Assessment and Grading : In this program, assessment and grading are conducted according to Cukurova University Education and Assessment regulations for Associate and Undergraduate degrees.

Graduation Requirements : To be able to finish undergraduate degree, students must complete all courses, applications and workshops that are included in the program, gain two hundred and forty (240) ECTS credit requirements in total in undergraduate level and obtain a minimum GPA of 2.00/4.00. 

Mode of Study : This programme is a Full Time programme.
