General Information

Çukurova University Ceyhan Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was established with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 12.11.2012 according to the additional article 30 of the act numbered 2809 and started its educational activities in 2015. Our faculty continues its educational programme in two separate locations, which one is in Ceyhan and the other one is in Balcalı (Central) Campus. In our faculty, educational and training activities are carried out with the appointment of 20 faculty members (researchers) and 5 research assistants, as well as other relevant units of our university and faculty members from different universities. In addition to the educational activities in the laboratories of our faculty, analysis for research and diagnosis is carried out by using the infrastructure of Cukurova University. Additionally, our faculty provides training and consultancy services to veterinarians and breeders country wide. Except faculty classrooms and laboratories, our students also benefit from the Farm Animals Research and Application Center of the Faculty of Agriculture, Veterinary Control Research Institutes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, units affiliated to the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, Adana Meat and Dairy Institution Slaughterhouse, Turkish Jockey Club Equine Hospital, Animal Care Centers of Adana Metropolitan Municipality and District Municipalities and Animal Care Center of Osmaniye Municipality. Apart from the mentioned institutional units, regular visits are made to private ranchs and livestock enterprises of different animal species in order to increase the field experiences of our students. In addition to these, our Faculty also fulfills its social contribution to students and the society at all levels from primary education to secondary education, by carrying out various information activities about the love of animals, animal health and prevention and control of zoonotic diseases transmitted from animal to human and human to animal. The educational period in Veterinary Faculties is 5 years (consisting of 10 semesters), and graduates are awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) diploma equivalent to a master's degree for post-graduate education. Our faculty also continues its post-graduate educational activities within the body of Cukurova University Health Sciences and Science Institutes.

Feature & Definition

Veterinary Medicine is a multifaceted medical profession that requires knowledge and skills in subjects such as animal health, animal breeding and feeding, public health in terms of animal origin foods, environmental health, feedstuff production and biological substance production. In our country, the education-training period in Veterinary Faculties is 5 years and a single program is applied. The education system, which has been applied since the year it was established in Çukurova University, Ceyhan Veterinary Medicine Faculty, has been enriched with new methods widely accepted in Veterinary Faculties in the world and in our country. The veterinary education program of Ceyhan Veterinary Medicine Faculty is a program that primarily focuses on animal health and preventive public health problems. In the program, students study under the departments of basic sciences, preclinical sciences, clinical sciences, zootechnics and animal nutrition, and food hygiene and technology. In Veterinary Medicine Faculty, students are primarily provided with the knowledge and skills necessary to combat animal health problems in the first four years of theoretical and practical education. During the internship training period, it is aimed to be able to apply all these competencies and qualifications as a veterinarian under the supervision of trainers. The teaching and learning methods used in the current education system include presentations, laboratory studies, practices in professional skills laboratories, clinical training programs, summer internships outside the faculty and institution visits.

Goals

A veterinarian who graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine; 1. Having knowledge about basic veterinary services, 2. To have the skills and competencies and ethical values required by the veterinary profession, To be aware of the country requirements in matters related to animal husbandry policies and animal health issues, 3. To establish a healthy communication with patient owners, colleagues and professional institutions and organizations dealing with veterinary medicine as required by your doctor, 4. Being able to act effectively at all stages of zoonotic disease-related protection and control work with zoonotic disease-infected animals, having clinical knowledge for domestic animals and wild animals, 5. To record the problems observed by the school, to evaluate these records and to share them with colleagues, to present them to scientific meetings and sessions, 6. Being involved in interdisciplinary work teams by learning interdisciplinary relationships in veterinary medicine education process, 7. Be aware of the responsibilities of animals and animal owners to the veterinary profession and to act in accordance with ethical and traditional values of the profession, 8. Evaluating the positive or negative conditions that may arise related to the profession while continuing its activities related to the subject, taking effective role in the formation of effective methods in managing these processes, 9. To learn the basic knowledge and skills required by the body, to apply the diagnosis and treatment methods, to learn the applications that will contribute to the future place and development of the profession in fields covering animal welfare and public health, 10. To use information technologies that are appropriate to the conditions of the day in addition to the knowledge and skills that will be used in the framework of scientific data when performing the course, 11.The veterinary profession should be carried out in scientific standards and be a follower of profession, global or national standards and policies, 12. Be aware of the necessity of lifelong learning and social interaction and communication, personal development in the veterinary medicine profession, 13. Being able to cope with the uncertainties that may be encountered in performing the exercise and to be able to comply with the changes, 14. It is aimed to be aware of individual deficiencies and strive to find professional help and support for these deficiencies.

Objectives

Our mission is to serve the country's animal and human health in the best way possible by training veterinarians who apply the highest veterinary standards according to world conditions and can improve themselves in this direction, are competent in diagnosing diseases scientifically and applying treatment methods, have a say in food safety, prioritize animal welfare, and successfully apply lifelong learning criteria.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are accepted to this program with the placement result document given by the Evaluation, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). However, within the scope of horizontal transfer, they can be placed with the result of the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) and General Grade Point Average (GPA) in accordance with the current guidelines in the scope of lateral transfer.

Qualification Awarded

The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain " Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) " degree with a master of science (MSc) diploma.

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

In order to graduate from the Faculty of Veterinary, students must complete the total amount of 300 ECTS credits, to win at least 25% of the total credits from the elective courses, all courses, applications and internships prescribed by the program, provisions of the Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations of Çukurova University and have a GPA of at least 2.00 over 4.00.

Access to Further Studies

Students who complete their five-year education graduate with a "Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Graduate Diploma" which is equivalent to a master's degree for post-graduate education. As long as they meet the necessary conditions, they can continue their national and/or international "PhD" and "Specialization in Veterinary Medicine" training.

Internship

In the veterinary faculty education program; internships are done in two terms, 10 working days at the end of the 6th term and 21 working days at the end of the 8th term. Internships are done in units such as faculty clinics, private veterinary clinics and hospitals, institutes, animal hospitals, etc. within public institutions and organizations.

Applied Course

The students of our faculty do their practical training in Farm Animals Research and Application Center of the Faculty of Agriculture, Veterinary Control Research Institutes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, units affiliated to the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, Adana Meat and Dairy Institution Slaughterhouse, Turkish Jockey Club Equine Hospital, Animal Care Centers of Adana Metropolitan Municipality and District Municipalities, Animal Care Center of Osmaniye Municipality and private livestock enterprises under the supervision of faculty members.

Work Placement

Within the scope of the education provided in our unit, our students complete their workplace training within the framework of summer internships they do in Provincial Control Laboratories affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Veterinary Control Institutes, Veterinary Control and Research Institutes, Provincial and District Directorates, Combines affiliated to the Meat and Milk Institution, Research Units affiliated to the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises, Municipalities, private sector feed, medicine and biological producing companies, universities and private animal hospitals and clinics.
