Course Goal / Objective

to develop a knowledge of the fundamentals of urbanism, including its principles and objectives; to increase the awareness of contemporary issues of urbanism; to develop an interdisciplinary perspective on urbanism, incorporating economic, social, political and environmental considerations; to develop skills in presenting to and facilitating discussion groups and communicating urbanism ideas and proposals; to identify, describe, appraise and communicate the design characteristics and qualities of places and spaces; to recognise the social and cultural heritage considerations and values in urbanism.

Course Content

Process of urbanism; urban design theories; basic factors and approaches that affect the shaping of cities; urban design models and their examples; historical evolution of urbanism.
