Course Goal / Objective

The student will acquire basic information about the structure and functions of the fungal cell. The student will learn the basic principles of the methods used for the diagnosis of infections caused by fungi that are important in human health and for determining the susceptibility of these agents to antifungal drugs.

Course Content

This course includes; classification and general characteristics of fungi, molds and yeasts that cause diseases in humans, diagnosis of diseases caused by fungi, taxonomic and microscopic features of major fungi important for human health, superficial and cutaneous mycoses, antifungal drugs used in the treatment of fungal infections in humans and the action and resistance mechanisms of these drugs.
