Course Goal / Objective

The sociological, economical and politcal dimensions of digital media and communication technologies are examined. The course aims to review digital media through the perspective of communication studies, in relation to everyday life, culture and politics.

Course Content

As the digital media technologies became widespread, considering its role in many different areas such as survelliance and control, social movements, media establisment, economy, everyday and social life the issues that will be examined in this course are as follows: the basic concepts about new media, political economy of new media, the role of new media in everyday life, identity and social change, the relation between new media and user, new forms of journalism in new media, citizen journalism and alternative-independent media, participation in the communication environment in new media, improving critical thinking in the context of the role and forms of uses of the producer-consumers in rights and social movements and distinctive forms of use of new media.
