Course Goal / Objective

The aim of the course is to teach students computer hardware units, basic internet terminology, and Windows operating system as well as providing them necessary skills to use Office softwares.

Course Content

Introduction to basic information Technologies, What's a computer History of computer, its classifications, types, basic functions, operation logic, system, hardware and software, Microsoft Windows topics: Desktop, task bar, start menu elements, window procedures, basic file/folder operations, folder options, adding and removing items in start menu, desktop customisation, taskbar customisation, start menu programs, all programs, control panel, Microsoft Word topics: writing and saving texts, creating new document, copy/paste/cut/move/highlight functions in text, transition between visuals, formatting text, Microsoft Word topics: paragraph formatting, use of bullet points, creating numeric lists, borders and shades, finding and changing texts, correction of typing errors, working with page layout, print preview and print options, Microsoft Word topics: additions to page (inserting page number, header and footer, symbols, footnote etc.), writing text in columns, working with tables, pictures and graphs. Microsoft Power Point topics: Slides, inserting text and picture, formatting slides, inserting other objects to slides. Microsoft Excel topics: Basic operations with workbooks, data input on spreadsheet (cell, row, column, adding and removing column, row interval etc.), formatting characters, numbers and cells, organising workbook. Microsoft Excel topics: Using formulas, (addition, functions(sum, average, max, min), count, countif, free computations, application types ( relative, absolute and mixed applications), working with graphs. Microsoft Excel topics: Conditional formatting, data sorting, data filtering. Microsoft Excel applications. Internet topics: Basic elements of Internet (Internet protocols, web page, URL, ISP, IP address, Internet address, etc.), usage of Internet Explorer, usage of electronic mail.
