Course Goal / Objective

Gain the ability to offer solutions to prevent environmental pollution in local and global contexts. a. Examples of the work done to prevent environmental pollution in local and global contexts are given. b. It is ensured that human activities that harm the environment at local and global scale are discussed. c. It gives examples of how biology is associated with other disciplines in preventing environmental pollution.

Course Content

Key Concepts: environmental problem, ecological footprint, carbon footprint, water footprint. Evaluates the causes and possible consequences of current environmental problems. a. Current environmental problems (decrease in biological diversity, air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, radioactive pollution, sound pollution, acid rains, global climate change, erosion, destruction of natural habitats and forest fires) are summarized and the negative effects of these problems on living beings are stated. b. Emphasis is placed on diseases caused by environmental problems. Questions the role of an individual in the emergence of environmental problems. a. Applications related to ecological footprint, water footprint and carbon footprint are made. b. It is ensured that solutions are developed to reduce the ecological footprint, water footprint and carbon footprint.
