Course Goal / Objective

Describe histology and introduce routine histological techniques. Define the structure of the cell. Explain the general histological structures of epithelial, connective and support tissues, and muscle and nerve tissues. Aim of this course is to give information about male and female reproductive systems, structural and functional relations of cells, developmental stages and features from fertilization to birth, instances that occur during this period and their mechanisms.

Course Content

Introduction to histology, description of histology, histological slide preparation stages, fixation, dehydration, transparency, blocking, sectioning, staining, types of microscopes and microscopy methods commonly used in histology, specific methods used in histology, cell, the cell membrane, nucleus, cytoplasm, cytoplasmic inclusions, cytoskeleton, cell division, cell movement,epithelial tissue, the forms and characteristics of epithelial cells, specializations of the cell surface, types of epithelia, general biology of epithelial tissue, epithelial tissue regeneration, connective tissue, ground substance, fibers, cells, types of connective tissue, adipose tissue, unilocular adipose tissue, multilocular adipose tissue, cartilage, the general properties of cartilage, hyaline cartilage, elastic cartilage, fibrous cartilage, bone tissue, the macroscopic structure of the bone, microscopic structure of the bone, histogenesis, bone growth and remodeling, muscle tissue, general characteristics of muscle tissue, skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, regeneration of muscle tissue, nerve tissue, neurons, nerve fibers, neuroglia, peripheral nerves, autonomic nervous system, integumentary system.
