Course Goal / Objective

It is aimed to gain a general knowledge on meteorology. It is also targeted to them to make the right determination when faced with meteorological events in scientific or occupational cruises.

Course Content

Definition, concept and parts of meteorology, basic structures and characteristics of atmosphere.. Meteorological elements and effects on sea, temperature, types of thermometers and working principles. Methods of temperature measuring on coast and boat, temperature and layering, pressure and presuure measrin methods in seas and oceans,high and low pressure centers, siclon and antisiclon and pressure systems on mediterranean. Wind concept, determination of wind, direction and speed frequancy. Effects of wind on sea. Seas effected by the atmosphere, classification and symbols of banks. Clouds and falls, visibility, atmospheric information points for seamen, recording, assesment and reporting of atmospheric observations, Meteorological navigation, wave occurance and effects in sea, currents in world and in Turkey.
