Course Goal / Objective
The course reviews and evaluates the fossil and archaeological evidence for people in Anatolia during the Palaeolithic, and their connections with surrounding regions.
Course Content
Although Anatolia was a probably route of hominin migrations from the Near East to Europe during the Pleistocene, Palaeolithic research in Turkey remains very uneven. Chipped stone industries in Anatolia often differed in important ways from contemporary industries in the Near East and southeastern Europe, and the evidence of hominin fossils is very sparse. The course reviews and compares evidence for the Palaeolithic in different parts of Anatolia, and fits this evidence into the broader Eurasian context.
