Course Goal / Objective

To learn basic information about low dimensional structures and fabrication techniques. To learn the necessary devices and their intended use for the analysis of nano structures.

Course Content

Introduction to mesoscopic physics and low dimensional structures (quantum well, wires and dots). Fabrication methods: self assembly, epitaxial thin film growth techniques, ion implantation, Langmuir-Blodgett multilayer growth, e-beam lithography, contact printing. Microscopies including AFM, SEM and STM. Structural properties using electron and x-ray diffraction techniques.
