Course Goal / Objective
To teach the basic properties of low dimensional quantum systems.
Course Content
Schrödinger's equation in the presence of electric and magnetic fields, Solution of Schrödinger's equation in two dimensions in the presence of a uniform electric field, The effect of magnetic field on the two dimensional electron gas and Solution of Schrödinger's equation, Time independent perturbation theory, Degenerate perturbation theory, Time dependent perturbation theory, Variational principle, Scattering and Fermi's Golden Rule, Impurity scattering, Optic phonon scattering, Electron-phonon interaction, Absorption in quantum wells, Remote impurity scattering in two dimensional electron gas, Scattering rates and Monte Carlo methods.
