Course Goal / Objective

Exposed to advanced strength and elasticity theories as they apply to special elements. Gains profeciency in using Finite Element Analysis and perform special applications

Course Content

Stress. Strain. Strain-Displacement Relations: Rectangular Coordinates, Cylindrical Coordinates. Thermal Strains. Thermal Stresses. Curved Beams in Bending: Tangential Stress, Radial Stress. Thick-Walled Cylinders and Rotating Disks: Press-Fit (Shrink-Fit) Problems. Energy Principles: Potential Energy and Complementary Energy. Introduction to FEM: Truss Elements, Beam Elements, Two-Dimensional Linear Elements. Derivation of Element Stiffness Matrices, Assembly of Elements. Solutions for Displacements, Strains and Stresses.
