Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is mainly to teach drought concept, its occurrence and relation to agricultural and hydrological practices;to develop drought action plans throug using drougt management techniques, and to realise resource management at the optimal level during dry spells.
Course Content
Drought concept, climatic change and its relation with agricultural practices. Drought classification, determining dry and rainy spells. Drought indices and mapping: percentiles of normal values, quartiles, deciles, Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI), Surface water Supply Index (SWSI), Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI), Crop-Moisture Index (CMI), National Precipitation Index (RI), Dependable Rainfall (DR). Drought estimation: frequency, duration and risk analysis. Drought monitoring and planning. Regional Drought Indices Applications: Analysis of hydrological, meteorological and agricultural drought sequences; point and areal estimation of drought, its rich interpretation and use in practice.
Course Precondition
In order to enroll this course, it is sufficient to be a graduate or doctoral student. There are no other prerequisites.
