Course Goal / Objective
To give the necessary information about structure, organization and functions of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genetic material to understand their importance on a normal life and some diseases at the molecular level.
Course Content
Introduction of the program presentation. Lesson plan. The importance, origin and evolution of nucleus. Nuclear envelope and por complex. Molecular traffic between nucleus and cytoplasm. Chromosome and chromatin structure, nucleus and rRNA. Status of nucleus in cell cycle, Metabolism, Evolution of metabolism, Evolution of mitochondria and plastids, Structure of mitochondria, Molecular mechanism of oxidative phosphorylation; chemosmotic theory, chloroplast and plastids, photosynthesis and perexisomes. Cell skeleton: Structure and organization of actin filaments, Actin, Myosin and cell movement, Intermediate flaments, Microtubules, Microtubule motor proteins and movement, Cilia, flagella and centriol. Organization of cell skeleton in mitosis, Movement of chromosomes, Cell communication: Signal molecules and signal receptors, Signal transduction pathways in the cell, Signal transduction and Cell skeleton. Midterm /final exam
