Course Goal / Objective

Giving basic navigational knowledge on merchant ships

Course Content

Definition and history of shipping. Characteristics that define the ship and nautical terminology. Auxiliary structures used in shipping. Measurement units and conversions used in shipping. Ship types and general classifications. Ropes, rope types and rope processes, sailor's ties, vegetable and wire rope stitches. Structure and sections of ships, tanks, watertight bulkheads, holds, bilge and ballast circuits. Boat maintenance, scraping and painting works.
