Course Goal / Objective
Its aim is to examine the general principles by which animals function. Once introduced, students will be expected to be able to apply this knowledge to understanding animal distributions and function in all major habitat types. Students desiring a more in-depth treatment of specific topics in zoology.
Course Content
The course covers the following topics: General principles of Zoology, Zoology and related sciences, introduction to scientific method, the chemistry of life, a comparative approach to the study of animal life, cell structure and function, cellular respiration, protein synthesis, the cell cycle, animal tissues, organs and organ systems, nutrition and vitamins, evolution, introduction to genetics, the basic principles of heredity, taxonomy, classification and phylogeny, ecology.
