Course Goal / Objective

The tectonic style of the thousands of meters of sedimentary sediments that are deposited in sedimentary basins is determined by using the seismic reflection data from geophysical methods.

Course Content

Introduction, basic principles, History on the use of seismic data, Seismic reflection data acquisition, Basic concepts and terminology of seismic data, The usage and importance of seismic data in geology, Principles of seismic reflection interpretation, The usage of seismic data in the interpretation of structural elements in the regional scale, Interpretation of tectonic structures developed as a result of compression on seismic reflection records, Interpretation of tectonic structures developed as a result of extension on seismic reflection records, Interpretation of tectonic structures developed as a result of thrust on seismic reflection records.
