Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to inform students about optical fiber communication systems including different beam transmitter, amplifier and photo receiver blocks.

Course Content

Fiber optic communication system, optical sources, photodetectors, fiber optic waveguides, transmission characteristics of optic fibers, fiber materials, optical fiber losses.

LO09 Explains test methods for single-mode fiber optics and cables.
LO10 Explains fiber optic types defined in ITU-T.
LO11 Explain the mechanical and environmental effects on fiber optics.
LO12 Defines fiber optic cable layers and cable types.
LO13 Makes fiber optic cabling.
LO14 It performs optical inserts, connectors connections and passive nodes.
