Course Goal / Objective

To introduce the student to automotive electrical installation and electronic control systems

Course Content

Introduction to Automotive Electricity: Basic electrical principles, Direct current, Alternating current, Electrical units, Series-Parallel circuit; Ignition Systems: Classic, Electronic ignition system circuit diagram, Primary and Secondary circuit, Induction coil, Platinum and Capacitor, Function of spark plugs; Charging Systems: Structure of batteries, their elements, structure of the charge controller, functions of the alternator; Starter Systems: Structural and electrical properties of the starter system, Working principle of the starter motor; Vehicle Electrical Systems: Lighting, Warning, Electronic Ignition Systems, Sensors Used in Vehicles and Working Principles, Electronically Controlled Movement Systems, Airbag System, Electronically Controlled Gasoline Spraying Systems, Electronically Controlled Diesel Spraying Systems.

LO05 The student explains the parts of electronically controlled fuel injection systems and the operating principle of the system.
LO06 The student explains the parts of active pretensioner seat belt and airbag systems and the working principle of the system.
LO07 The student explains the parts of motion control systems (ABS, ESP, TCS, ASR, EBD, LSD, AutoHold, 4x4 traction systems, electric assisted steering, etc.) and the working principles of these systems.
