Course Goal / Objective
To disseminate the most up to date knowledge on the fundamentals of surface physics, on surface steps and and their interactions, on the equilibrium shape of equilibrating crystals, on the investigation of equilibrating continuous and steppede surfaces and on other related subjects.
Course Content
Definition of surface, review of thermodynamic potentials, surface energy, surface morphology, chemical potential, surface diffusion equation and one dimensional solution, surface roughnening temperature, atomic steps and chemical potential, equilibrium surface shape, Wulff construction, equations of motion for steps, analytical solutions, numerical solutions of equations of motion.
