Course Goal / Objective
1. This course is intended to give a comprehensive knowledge about the static applications of power electronic circuits 2. A detailed view to DC-DC converters: operation principles, analysis, control, design issues, 3. An understanding of how power electronic systems spread to industrial, utility and residence application areas.
Course Content
Static switches, buck, boost, buck-boost, flyback, forward, push-pull, half-bridge and full-bridge DC-DC converters (Switch-Mode Power Supplies – SMPSs). Uninterruptable power supplies (UPS): operational principles, types, battery charging methods and control circuits. Electronic balast. Power electronic circuits at High Voltage DC transmission (HVDC). Power factor correction: Static reactive power compansation, active filters. Electrochemical applications. Power electronic circuits at induction furnaces
