Course Goal / Objective
The course aims to explore the integration of conceptual approaches and performance art in the realm of ceramic art. Students will be encouraged to challenge traditional boundaries and definitions of ceramics by engaging with art forms that emphasize ideas, processes, and viewer interaction. The course will cover a range of practices from generating artistic concepts that translate into ceramic works, to incorporating performance elements that complement or are integral to the ceramic pieces. Through critical analysis, creative workshops, and collaborative projects, students will learn to create works that are conceptually driven and performative in nature. This course seeks to cultivate an environment where students can develop their own unique artistic voice and execute complex projects that push the limits of conventional ceramic art.
Course Content
The Spring semester focuses on conceptual art and performance within the realm of ceramic art. The course will cover the essentials of conceptual art and how this art form can be integrated with ceramics. Students will be taught how to visualize conceptual ideas in ceramic works and transform these ideas into tangible artworks. In the performance art segment, the course will examine how performance can be integrated with ceramics, giving students the opportunity to experience how they can merge live performances with ceramic pieces. The course aims to comprehensively address the skills necessary for critical thinking, concept development, and creative expression needed for conceptual and performance art projects. Students will ultimately design and present their own conceptual and performance projects at the end of the course.
