Course Goal / Objective

To be able to design and analyze design problems in biomechanics applications using the finite element method.

Course Content

The use of computational methods to solve design problems related to the biomechanical industry. Introduction to Finite Element Method. Available analyses types, presentation and geometry construction methods, meshing techniques, boundary conditions and material constants definition, analysis techniques, results processing, error estimations. General description of commercially available FEA programs. The use of ANSYS/Abaqus. Case studies; design and FEA of biomechanical parts as orthopedic plates, screws, soft tissue implants, and dental implants.
