Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to give the students a basic knowledge about the stresses and deformations that will occur under the load, the selection of the appropriate soil behavior model and whether they will reach the migration.

Course Content

Engineering properties of soils and soil behavior observed in the field / Effective stress concept / Shear strength and collapse hypotheses / Stress-strain traces, critical state line and Roscoe surface / Hvorslev parameters / Soil tests and critical situation model / Plasticity theory for clays and sands in undrained conditions / Elasto-plastic models

LO03 Students will have knowledge about critical condition theory describing the shear strength of soils and will have the ability to use this theory in soil mechanics problems.
LO04 Explains elastoplastic deformation in soil behaviour
LO05 Explains elastic stress-strain relations in soils
