Course Goal / Objective
To convey theoretical and practical information about the operation and ecology of activated sludge process, which is the basic treatment method of environmental engineering.
Course Content
Activated sludge basic mechanism and activated sludge formation process. Growth of microorganisms, basic principles of treatment and microbiology. Effects of nutrients, dissolved oxygen, retention time, pH, toxicity, temperature, mixing and hydraulic principles on activated sludge treatment efficiency. Different process modifications and their application principles. Treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater with activated sludge. Activated sludge kinetics. Oxygen transfer. Removal of nutrients (Nitrogen Phosphorus). Activated sludge process monitoring parameters, color, foam (foam) formation, odor problem and other problems that occur in the activated sludge treatment process. Formation of filamentous bacteria.
