Course Goal / Objective

It is to learn about the defense mechanisms developed by insects and to gain knowledge about the possibilities of using this information in pest control.

Course Content

In terms of species number, insects rank first among animal groups worldwide. They have developed various defense mechanisms to protect themselves from predators, parasitoids, and other threats in their environment. These defense mechanisms have allowed insects to adapt and survive in a wide range of habitats, from deserts to forests and aquatic environments. Insects use a variety of strategies to defend themselves, including chemical defense, camouflage, physical structures, mimicry, and evasion/flight. In this course, each of these strategies will be examined separately and explained in detail with examples.
