Course Goal / Objective

The purpose of the course is to discuss techniques for understand changing climates in the past, and to discuss archaeological debates about how changing climates affected prehistoric societies.

Course Content

The course discusses various proxies used to measure paleoclimates, and the understanding of changing Pleistocene and Holocene paleoclimates and paleoenvironments gained from these proxies. The course then discusses the possible relationships between environmental changes and significant social changes in the Near East environment during the past 20 thousand years.
