Course Goal / Objective

Aim of this course is To teach geological and geotechnical research methods; to enable students with the ability to determine the methods of excavation and determine the possible problems.

Course Content

Tunnel route selection and research, preliminary research, feasibility studies, ground conditions, surface and underground exploration, field and laboratory experiments, writing of the report. Tunnel rock classifications and support systems. geological problems encountered during the tunnel excavation, the effects of stratification and folds, problems encountered in tunnels opened in fault zones and close to the slopes, temperature, geothermal gradient and gases, and basic information on topics such as how to obtain theoretical and practical methods is explained in this course.
