Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to have knowledge about epigenetic regulations such as histone modifications and chromatin remodelling and learn role of epigenetics in development, formation of heterochromatin, imprinting and some diseases.

Course Content

History of Epigenetics, Concepts of Epigenetics, Chromatin Modifications and Their Mechanism of Action, Epigenetic studies in model organisms (Position Effect, Heterochromatin Formation, and Gene Silencing), The role of Polycomb and Trithorax Group Proteins in Epigenetics, Histone Variants and Epigenetics, Epigenetic Regulation of Chromosome Inheritance, Dosage Compensation in Mammals, DNA Methylation and Genomic Imprinting, Nuclear Transplantation and the Reprogramming of the Genome, Epigenetics and Human Disease, Cancer and Epigenetics, Epigenetic therapy, MIDTERM/FINAL EXAM

Genome and proteome courses and cancer Biology and Genetics courses must be taken
