Course Goal / Objective

To equip students with a comprehensive understanding of drinking water disinfection principles, chlorine chemistry, disinfection kinetics, the C·T concept, unit design, and alternative disinfection methods.

Course Content

Fundamental concepts of drinking water disinfection, chlorine chemistry and disinfection mechanisms, disinfection kinetics and C·T concept, disinfection unit design, alternative disinfectants (ozone, UV, chlorine dioxide, etc.), disinfection by-products (DBPs) and their health effects, factors affecting disinfection efficiency, and national and international disinfection standards.

Course Precondition

Students are expected to have a fundamental understanding of water chemistry and water treatment processes.
