Course Goal / Objective

Teaching the subjects, concepts and terms in the course content to students within the framework of occupational health and safety.

Course Content

Occupational health and safety in sewerage and wastewater works, What are the Jobs in Sewerage?, What Jobs Do Workers Do?, Risks Encountered in Sewerage Works in Terms of Occupational Health, precautions, Noise, precautions to be taken by employers, thermal comfort, lighting, vibration, dust, chemical risks, biological risks, risks arising from work equipment, risks arising from electricity, ergonomic risks, psycho-social risks, occupational diseases, Hazards and Warning Systems in Confined Spaces, Access Routes for Vehicles and Pedestrians, Fixed Ladders, Inspection Shafts, Steps and Ladders, Fall Prevention Measures and Covers, Emergency Exits, Work Places, Work and Maintenance Platforms, Areas with Explosion Risk, Gratings, Screens, Sand/Oil Traps, Wastewater Pump Stations, aeration Basins, Digestion Tanks, Low Pressure Gas Tanks, Gas Engine Rooms and Gas Engines, Chemical and Hazardous Substances Storage and Preparation Facilities.

Course Learning Outcomes

Order Course Learning Outcomes
LO01 Students will be able to provide a good level of information about occupational health and safety in treatment plants and sewerage and wastewater works.
LO02 Students who attend the course will reach an enlightening level on the subjects of What are the Jobs in the Sewerage System? and What Workers Do?
LO03 They know the risks to occupational health in sewerage works and the precautions they can take.
LO04 They become competent in noise, precautions that employers should take, thermal comfort, lighting, vibration and dust headings.
LO05 They have sufficient knowledge about chemical risks, biological risks, risks arising from work equipment.
LO06 They can provide good level of information transfer about risks caused by electricity and ergonomic risks.
LO07 Students know Psycho-social risks, occupational diseases, Hazards in Confined Spaces and Warning Systems.
LO08 They will have sufficient knowledge about Access Routes for Vehicles and Pedestrians, Fixed Stairs, Control Shafts, Steps and Ladders, Fall Prevention Measures and Covers.
LO09 Students who take this course will be able to provide information on emergency exits, work areas, work and maintenance platforms, areas at risk of explosion, screens, sieves, sand/oil traps, wastewater pump stations, aeration basins, digestion tanks, low pressure gas storage facilities, gas engine rooms and gas engines, chemical and hazardous materials storage and preparation facilities in environments such as treatment plants and sewage systems.
