Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to understand the basic concepts and their properties in the learning areas of numbers, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability, to discuss the relationships between these concepts mathematically and to integrate them effectively into the teaching process by transforming them into each other with multiple representations. In addition, in line with the aims and principles of mathematics teaching, to analyze the connection of these concepts with the middle school mathematics curriculum and to develop pedagogical approaches.

Course Content

fractions, operations with fractions, decimal notation, percentages, factors and multiples, sets, whole numbers, operations with whole numbers, rational numbers, operations with rational numbers, ratio, ratio and proportion, exponents, square roots, algebraic expressions, equality and equation, linear equations, algebraic expressions and identities, inequality; the relationship between these concepts, the discussion of mathematical concepts and their transformation into each other with multiple representations, and the relationship of these subjects with the aims, principles and secondary school mathematics program. Geometry, statistics and probability in the mathematics program, learning areas (basic geometric concepts and drawings, triangles and quadrilaterals, triangles, measuring length and time, measuring area, geometric objects, angles, lines and angles, circle, circle and circle, liquid measurement, transformation geometry, polygons, views of objects from different directions, basic concepts and properties of the topics (similarity and similarity, data collection and evaluation, data analysis, probability of simple events), the relationship between these concepts, discussion of mathematical concepts and their transformation into each other with multiple representations, and the relationship of these topics with the aims, principles and secondary school mathematics curriculum.

Course Learning Outcomes

Order Course Learning Outcomes
LO01 Recognize the basic concepts (natural numbers, fractions, rational numbers, exponential expressions, etc.) in the learning areas of numbers and algebra and explain the properties of these concepts.
LO02 Analyze the relationships between concepts in the areas of numbers, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability and discuss these relationships in a mathematical context.
LO03 Perform conversions between natural numbers, fractions, decimal notation, percentages and rational numbers using multiple representations.
LO04 Explain and apply the basic relationships between geometric concepts (triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, circle and circle, geometric objects, etc.) and measurement units (length, area, volume, time).
LO05 Performs data collection, analysis and interpretation processes with statistical methods and calculates the probability of simple events.
LO06 Perform operations on algebraic expressions, linear equations, inequalities and identities and identify critical points in teaching these concepts.
LO07 Use different representations of mathematical concepts (symbolic, visual, numerical, verbal) and transform between these representations.
LO08 Design effective teaching methods by analyzing the objectives and principles of the middle school mathematics program in the learning areas of numbers, algebra, geometry, statistics and probability.
LO09 Discover the applications of mathematical concepts in daily life and make mathematical modeling in this context.
LO10 Plan strategies to increase students' mathematical achievement by developing mathematical thinking and problem solving skills.
