Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to teach students the basic concepts of map knowledge, map types, projection systems, the concept of scale and the correct use of maps. It also aims to teach how to use maps in geographical analysis, planning studies and various applications by supporting practical applications. Students will gain the ability to interpret spatial data and make decisions in map-based analysis.

Course Content

This course covers basic map information concepts, map types and their usage areas. The course covers cartographic concepts such as scale, projection systems and coordinate systems; map production process, data collection and map drawing methods are taught. Map reading and spatial data interpretation skills are developed. Digital map production and basic Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts are introduced. Topics such as scale change, thematic maps and analysis of map errors are supported by applied studies. There is also a focus on the use of maps in areas such as planning, engineering and natural resource management. The course is completed with an application project.
