Course Goal / Objective
This course aims to enable participants to understand the emerging fields of e-commerce and platform law in the digital economy from the perspectives of both Turkish law and European Union law. The course will cover fundamental concepts of e-commerce, contractual relationships, data protection regulations, and legal issues specific to the platform economy. Participants will be encouraged to develop critical solutions by interpreting both current legal regulations and sectoral developments.
Course Content
The course begins with an introduction to e-commerce and platform law, focusing on the legal framework of the digital economy, its relationship with information technology law, and key foundational concepts. E-commerce regulations and unfair commercial practices under Turkish law will be analyzed. The course will cover in detail electronic contracts, distance contracts, and consumer protection regulations. Topics related to data law such as personal data protection and commercial electronic communications, will also be discussed. Furthermore, the role of online multi-sided platforms as commercial actors and their intersections with competition law will be examined. A comprehensive assessment will be conducted in light of current developments and challenges in e-commerce both in Turkey and in the European Union.
