Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to introduce the basic concepts, techniques, methods and tools related to the lean manufacturing system. Thus, students will learn how to increase productivity in production by learning the lean manufacturing philosophy, basic principles of lean manufacturing, waste and its types, value stream mapping, OEE, continuous improvement, 5S, SMED, TPM, JIT, kanban etc. techniques.

• Production and production types, • Classification of production systems, • Fundamentals of lean production thinking, • Definition of lean production, • Historical development of lean production, basic principles and characteristics, • Definition and types of waste, • Total equipment efficiency (OEE), • Value stream mapping, • Just-in-time production, • Kanban and pull system, • Single piece flow, • Balanced production, • SMED (One Minute Mold Change), • Workstation design, ergonomics, 5S, • Continuous improvement
