Course Goal / Objective

o practically teach tissue culture, somatic hybridization, and gene transfer techniques applied in fruit trees.

Course Content

The general principles of plant biotechnology, in vitro clonal propagation within the scope of tissue culture techniques in fruit trees, meristem culture, shoot tip grafting, protoplast culture, somatic hybridization, and gene transfer techniques are explained both theoretically and practically.

LO01 Learns the chronological development stages of plant biotechnology. Gains knowledge about the main components and areas of plant biotechnology.
LO02 Learns and practices propagation techniques from tissue culture methods such as in vitro clonal propagation, meristem culture, and shoot tip grafting.
LO03 Learns the methods for developing plant varieties tolerant to diseases and extreme environmental conditions through in vitro clonal selection.
LO04 Learns and practices the technique of somatic hybridization through protoplast culture and fusion, aimed at developing plants with enhanced tolerance to extreme environmental conditions and increased resistance to diseases and pests.
LO05 Learns gene transfer methods in plants. Gains knowledge on the analysis of transgenic plants. Acquires information about commercially available transgenic plants.
LO06 Learns tissue culture methods in both stone fruit (hard-seeded) and pome fruit (soft-seeded) tree species.
