Course Goal / Objective
By the end of this course, students are expected to gain knowledge of the basic measurements and analyses conducted in the field of fruit, vegetable, grape, and ornamental plant cultivation, and postharvest physiology, thereby preparing them for the practices to be carried out under field conditions during the spring semester. Additionally, within the scope of the joint internship protocol, it is aimed for students to be introduced to the laboratories within the Department of Plant Protection, to gain general knowledge of laboratory studies conducted in the field of Plant Protection, and to acquire the ability to conduct multidisciplinary studies. Each week, one student is enabled to lead their group peers, and one week of the course is dedicated to practicing giving and receiving instructions. Thus, it is aimed to instil leadership and instructional management skills in students.
Course Content
Within the scope of this course, laboratories of the Department of Horticulture are introduced to students who are newly acquainted with horticultural plants. Information is provided on laboratory instruments and equipment specific to different subgroups (fruits, vegetables, grapevines, and ornamental plants) and various analyses (pomology, postharvest physiology, etc.), and the studies conducted in these laboratories. Fruit quality analyses are also included practically. Furthermore, within the framework of the joint internship protocol, students are introduced to the laboratories of the Department of Plant Protection, and general information is provided on ongoing laboratory studies.
