Course Goal / Objective

By understanding the meaning of interdisciplinary learning, students use interdisciplinary thinking and reasoning skills. In particular, they gain problem-solving skills by using knowledge from different disciplines related to socioscientific issues.

Course Content

Interdisciplinary learning involves recognizing the knowledge and skills used across different scientific disciplines, understanding and valuing the nature of interdisciplinary knowledge, and developing an interdisciplinary perspective. It includes the use of interdisciplinary knowledge in science teaching; understanding local, national, and global issues; developing products and models; designing processes and systems; project development; invention; personal development; career choice and awareness of its importance. It also covers interdisciplinary skills such as engineering and design, decision-making, higher-order thinking, information and communication technologies, collaboration, innovative thinking, and entrepreneurship. Furthermore, it addresses the interaction among science, technology, society, and the environment, including environmental, cultural, scientific, and technological policies. In addition, interdisciplinary learning includes the teaching of socioscientific issues, enabling individuals to become responsible citizens who can make and apply rational decisions regarding such issues while demonstrating appropriate attitudes and values. It also supports cognitive, affective, intuitive, moral, and ethical reasoning, as well as the application of teaching methods and strategies related to socioscientific issues.
