Course Goal / Objective
Interdisciplinary learning involves perceiving the knowledge and skills used across different scientific disciplines; understanding, valuing, and developing an interdisciplinary perspective; and applying interdisciplinary knowledge in science teaching. It also includes understanding local, national, and global events; developing products and models; designing processes and systems; project development; invention and innovation; as well as recognizing the importance of personal development and career choice. Furthermore, it encompasses interdisciplinary skills such as engineering and design, decision-making, higher-order thinking, information and communication technologies, collaboration, innovative thinking, entrepreneurship, and understanding the interactions among science, technology, society, and the environment, including environmental, cultural, scientific, and technological policies. In addition, it involves teaching socioscientific issues, becoming responsible citizens who can make and apply rational decisions about socioscientific issues with appropriate attitudes and values, engaging in cognitive, affective, intuitive, moral, and ethical reasoning, and implementing instructional methods and strategies related to socioscientific issues.
Course Content
Students develop interdisciplinary thinking and reasoning skills by understanding the meaning of interdisciplinary learning. In particular, they gain problem-solving skills by using knowledge from different disciplines related to socioscientific issues.
