Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce Information-Centric Networking (ICN) paradigms as an alternative to traditional IP-based networking and to provide a solid understanding of their core principles. The course covers content-oriented communication, data naming, in-network caching, and next-generation forwarding strategies, aiming to equip students with the ability to analyze and design such systems.

Course Content

Information-Centric Networking (ICN) concepts and architectures, comparative analysis with IP-based networking, content-oriented communication model, data naming and name resolution mechanisms, in-network caching techniques, forwarding and routing strategies, Named Data Networking (NDN) architecture, PIT, FIB, and Content Store structures, performance evaluation metrics, integration with IoT and distributed systems, security and data authentication mechanisms, and simulation-based experimental analysis.

Course Precondition

No prerequisites.

Resources

1. Van Jacobson et al., Networking Named Content, ACM CoNEXT, 2009 2. Lixia Zhang et al., Named Data Networking, ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review, 2014

Notes

1. ICN Research Papers (CCN, NDN, DONA) 2. ndnSIM and relevant simulation documentation
