Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is for students to: Gain a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of affirmative counseling Analyze minority stress, identity development, and discrimination processes Develop advanced multicultural competence Evaluate power, privilege, and ethical issues in therapeutic relationships Develop evidence-based practice

Historical development of affirmative counseling Minority Stress Model Intersectionality Theories of identity development Microaggressions Ethical and professional standards Cultural sensitivity in therapeutic alliances

Course Precondition

Pursuing a doctorate includes: Advanced Theories of Psychological Counseling Multicultural Counseling Research Methods (master's level)
