Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to: Access couples therapy processes at an advanced level within the context of cultural, ethnic, religious, socioeconomic, and sexual orientation diversity. Develop diversity-sensitive (multicultural) therapeutic skills. Analyze the impact of power, privilege, oppression, and microaggressions on couple relationships. Apply couples therapy approaches (especially systemic, emotionally focused, and holistic approaches) from a diversity perspective. Integrate ethics and cultural sensitivity into clinical decision-making processes.

Course Content

This course covers couples therapy practices in the context of cultural diversity, gender, LGBTQ+ couples, immigrant and minority couples, trauma, and power dynamics. Also included: Advanced case analysis Supervision-based practices Role-playing and intervention techniques Cultural formulation and assessment processes
