Course Goal / Objective

The aim is to provide a master's level understanding of the regional performance characteristics (individual and group) of Turkish folk dances and stage music, including modal, rhythmic, and rhythmic analyses.

Course Content

This course will cover a comparative analysis of the characteristics of Turkish folk dances, their local repertoire, and musical examples adapted for the stage. The rhythmic structure and melodic characteristics of the dances will be analyzed through good examples. In this context, dance music related to the staging process will be discussed within the framework of ethnochoreology and ethnomusicology.

LO01 It explains the musical instruments used in folk dances and their functions (rhythmic, melodic, accompaniment), and evaluates them through examples.
LO02 It creates musical accompaniment by analyzing the relationship between folk dance and music (step structure, tempo harmony, accent structure).
LO03 This study compares folk dance music from different regions of Turkey in terms of performance style, rhythmic structure, and musical character.
LO04 It analyzes and presents a selected folk dance piece in terms of its multi-layered structure (melody, rhythm, accompaniment/pedal, arpeggio).
