Course Goal / Objective

The primary goal of critical media literacy is to enable viewers/readers to develop a questioning approach to media consumption. To this end, it suggests supporting conscious media consumption through lessons within the family and early education system. It is based on the principle of reading all media content with a critical eye. Health literacy aims to adapt the principles of critical media literacy (access, evaluation, analysis, and output production) to health-themed news, programs, and broadcasts in the media. Media content in the health field, which deals with human life and health quality and is gaining popularity, must operate on the principle of scientific rigor. Sometimes, broadcasts that do not meet this requirement are encountered; their application can lead to consequences that threaten human health. For sensitive and accurate consumption of this content, health literacy courses are considered necessary.
