Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students from non-agricultural fields with fundamental knowledge of the principles of cattle production. In this context, students are expected to gain basic knowledge of cattle breeds and their characteristics, animal care and nutrition, housing, reproduction, growth and development, milking, animal welfare, and herd management. In addition, the course aims to enable students to evaluate dairy and beef cattle production from a holistic perspective, considering animal health and welfare, production efficiency, environmental impacts, and economic sustainability.

Course Content

The importance of cattle farming and basic concepts; biological and physiological characteristics of cattle; major dairy and beef cattle breeds; management of calves, heifers, lactating cows, and dry cows; basic principles of cattle nutrition; housing and environmental conditions; reproduction and reproductive efficiency; milk and beef production; milking and milk hygiene; animal behavior and welfare; basic herd health and biosecurity; record keeping and herd management; technological applications in cattle farming; sustainable and environmentally friendly cattle production.
